Our Safari Style
We believe that a mobile tented camp, in the old safari tradition – the ‘out of Africa’, Hemmingway style safari, is the very best way to experience Tanzania.
Amazing Tanzania has been operating mobile camping safaris in Tanzania since 1988. We specialise in tailor making safaris for groups from one – twelve. Our camps are set up exclusively wherever you choose to be.
Our Mobile Camps
There is no better way to experience the bush than to camp. After a long day of game drives, a cold drink at the camp fire, listening to the night time sounds, and watching the starry skies is the ideal way to end the day. Being a mobile camp we are able to set up in prime locations. Safari is completely dependent on the seasons, wildlife follows the rains, and where they go we follow.
Our mobile camps are practical and include all the luxuries of home. The camp consists of large walk-in tents with mosquito netted windows. Each tent has a veranda with a view. The bedroom consists of proper beds with duvets and fresh linen. Between the bedroom and en-suite shower & toilet located at the back of the tent, is a wardrobe area with a basin and a mirror. Hot water is available throughout the day.
The main dining tent is where breakfast, lunch and a 3 course dinner are served. As the camp is used strictly on an exclusive basis we are flexible to cater to your day. Should you wish to take breakfast or lunch in the form of a picnic this is easily done! Furthermore we are able to cater to most dietary requirements as long as we are given advance notice.
In trying to keep our carbon footprint to a minimum. All the tents are set up with solar installation for lighting. The dining tent is equipped with a Solar battery & inverter which allows for the charging of camera batteries, cell phones and laptops. Our toilets are portable chemical toilets, which uses a minimum amount of water but still offers the luxury of a flush loo.
Vehicles
All Amazing Tanzania vehicles are Land Rovers that have been specially adapted for safari. The seats have been moved back to give more legroom and 3 large hatches have been fitted in the roof for optimum game viewing. Since quite a bit of time is spent in the cars, other adaptations have been made to ensure travelling comfort such as canvas seat covers and cushions as well as pockets for water bottles, cameras and books. There is a fridge in each vehicle for essential cold drinks, as well as an inverter to charge camera batteries etc. Lastly, each car carries a comprehensive first aid kit and has radio communication with other Amazing Tanzania vehicles and base camps.
Our Guides
All the guides working with us are Tanzanian freelance guides that we have a long standing relationship with; we have been working together with some of them for almost 20 years!
Game Viewing
Observing wildlife is the main reason most people come on safari. Therefore, game viewing with Amazing Tanzania is unlimited. There is the option of the traditional early morning and evening game drives, an all day excursion, or any schedule you desire. Much depends on availability and position of the wildlife, the guide’s suggestions, as well as the mood of the group. The guide is totally flexible and doesn’t follow a stringent timetable, it’s your safari.
Walking Safaris and Cultural Encounters
Safari life has many facets. The wildlife, landscapes and people all combine to produce a unique experience. For many, getting out of the vehicle and walking in the African bush is the ultimate. On foot, our guides can show you the smaller things that play an important role in the ecology of an area. The sounds, smells and textures of the savannah or woodlands add another dimension to your safari. The Gol Mountains, Olkarien Gorge, The Ngorongoro highlands, and Lake Eyasi on the floor of the Rift valley are great places to be explored and provide opportunities to meet the tribes who live among the wildlife and the wilderness.
